Welcome to the Seasonal Cooking Project!

I’m embarking on a new journey! I’ve named it the Seasonal Cooking Project. Each month I’ll be challenging myself to be a better home cook and documenting new recipes I try that make the most of what’s in season.

Why seasonal ingredients? Because they:

  • Taste better when harvested at their peak
  • Are cheaper because they’re in abundance
  • Are a more sustainable way to cook

I’m a big proponent of seasonal produce and moving out of home has been the perfect opportunity for me to experiment with new recipes and cook more of what I want to eat. Plus, eating seasonal is also better for the wallet!

I’ll be visiting more farmers markets as part of this quest, and what better way to seek out the best produce NSW has to offer? Exploring farmers markets has quickly become one of my new favourite weekend hobbies – I love wandering around all the stalls and buying whatever catches my eye on that particular day.

Building meals around seasonal ingredients and using the produce to guide what I’ll cook will challenge me to be more creative and flexible in the kitchen.

I’ll also be documenting bits and pieces from my cooking adventures now I’ve moved out of home and am cooking for myself (and my loved ones, from time to time :)).

All Seasonal Cooking Project posts can be found in the top menu bar – stay tuned for my first post which will focus on the humble plum.

Leave a comment if you’d like me to try a particular ingredient or recipe!
