Easy Overnight Oats Recipe

These overnight oats are my go-to way to start the day. I started making them for breakfast about 6 months ago because I wanted to try something different from my standard store-bought muesli and I haven’t looked back since.

Overnight oats for brekkie!

As the name suggests, oats are soaked in liquid overnight and then eaten in the morning. Rolled oats are best for this recipe because they’ve got bite and will hold their shape in the soaking liquid without disintegrating into a mushy mess.

I love making these because they’re nutritious, easy to prepare and can be eaten in so many different ways. Because the oats are quite plain, they’re the perfect base for whatever flavours you like – cinnamon, nut butter, maple syrup, coconut, cocoa … the possibilities are endless!

There are lots of overnight oats recipes out there, but all you really need to remember is one simple ratio: one part rolled oats to one part milk. I like to make a big batch so that breakfast is sorted for the next couple of days and use full cream or soy milk as the soaking liquid for a creamy texture. Combine the oats and milk in a container or bowl, cover and refrigerate overnight.

Soaked oats mixed with yoghurt.

The next morning, mix in some yoghurt for a boost of prebiotics and protein. I really like the extra level of creaminess this adds.

Add your favourite fruits!

Add your favourite flavours and toppings and enjoy! I recently started taking The Beauty Chef’s Glow Inner Beauty Powder, so I’ll stir that in with the yoghurt before adding toppings. I try to incorporate a variety of textures so that each mouthful is different – some of my favourite additions are:

  • Fresh berries
  • Chopped apple
  • Slices of banana
  • Cinnamon (just a sprinkle, for warmth)
  • Toasted muesli (for crunch)
  • Chia seeds
  • Almond butter (drizzled on top for a toasted, nutty flavour)
Yum yum… how could you not want to eat this?!
